Elementary Law was founded in 2017 by Principal, Jason Watson, a lawyer recognised multiple times in the Intellectual Asset Magazine (IAM) Patent 1000 independent list of The World’s 1000 Leading Patent Professionals. Led by Jason, our professional legal team at Elementary Law has the long term experience and capability to provide you with an end to end scope of legal services related to Intellectual Property (IP), funding, research and technology commercialisation.

Jason Watson

He specialises in commercial and corporate law and innovation and has been named as "a major player with a significant reputation” featuring over a number of years in the respected Intellectual Asset Management (IAM) Patent 1000 reference guide. The guide identifies and profiles the world’s leading private practice patent professionals and firms in key jurisdictions. Jason has also been recognised in Doyle's Guide as a Leading Victorian Non-Contentious IP Lawyer and has significant expertise working with universities including UniSA, Flinders University, University of Newcastle and University of Melbourne and globally significant research institutes such as CSIRO.

Jason is the Chair of the Board of an ASX-listed company.

Viktoriia Hristova

Viktoriia qualified as a lawyer over 10 years ago and in that time has gained extensive experience in the field of trade marks, particularly in trade mark portfolio management, filing applications, oppositions and revocation proceedings, international brand protection, and enforcement matters. She manages clients across a range of sectors including cosmetics, fashion and retail, pharmaceuticals, and life sciences.

Her strong reputation for maintaining, protecting and enforcing her client’s IP rights extends beyond Australia, with many international clients entrusting her to advise on their brand protection issues and trade marks disputes in Australia.

She is admitted to practice law in the High Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of Victoria. Like all the legal team at our firm, Viktoriia is positive, bright and genuine. With a keen interest in research, intellectual property (IP) and commercialisation.

Rachel Schaffer

With 10 years experience in law, Rachel has spent the last four years with Elementary Law, specialising as a Corporate & Commercial Lawyer. She has excellent prior corporate experience from her time in a large international firm and was primarily responsible for CRC drafting at another firm. Another team member with a strong social conscience, Rachel is also a Board Director and Company Secretary of Playground Ideas, a not-for-profit organization that helps to support people in any location to build a stimulating space to help children develop through play, using only local materials, tools, and skills.
